In these day and age where there are so many things distracting us, it can get pretty hard to stay focus on one thing. That in it itself can lead to us doing so much at once that nothing gets done and we get severely off track.
There is a saying out there that says:
“Don’t be busy, be productive.”
I could not have agreed anymore to this. I’ve been victim to the “I’m busy syndrome.” We at time get so used to telling people that we are busy, but what is this busy? What is busy doing for you? We need to start looking at how can we be productive instead and get things that need to be done completed.
Let’s dig into 5 productivity hacks to check off everyday.
- Energy check off
What is the motivation behind what you doing today? Being productive is having enthusiasm for what you doing. I can personally tell you that if I’m not motivated to do something, it can take all day for me to get it done (if at all) which delays everything else I had to get done. The reason you pursuing doing any set of goals should be apparent for it fuels that motivation you need to get it done.
2. Calendar check off
Plan! Plan! Plan! Nothing worse than having a million things to do running in your head.
Write it down. See it. Get it done.- Katiana B.
Visibly see what you have to work on. Alternatively, having your calendar with every hour with something to do may be good but don’t overwhelm both the calendar and yourself. Remember balance in life. Block some time where you can take a deep breath.
- Must-dos first check off
Do your “have to” do first. The first hours of your day should be dedicated to that. Yesterday, I had a list of the must-dos and the need to do. When I woke up I just charge at those must dos and in 2 hours I was done. Mind you these were things I’ve been putting off to do. I heard this lady that said she works in 45 minutes cycles with 15 minutes break in between and to her that makes her accomplish things immediately than having to take a whole day. That minimized distraction and makes the work flow. Find what works for you and get those must-dos check off first.
- Perfectionism check off
Whether in business or personal life, not all that you do will be perfect. Perfectionism is the enemy of good. Don’t push to improve something that is already good. Instead, move on to other tasks and accept that good can be good enough for success.
- The “no” check off
Don’t be YES! man like Jim Carey.
Saying yes to every task can leave you overwhelmed. In business you can learn to delegate. In personal life, saying no can be its own source of stress due to the fact you may not want to disappoint your friends, family, and love ones but remember there is only one of you. You can make saying no easier strategically by sending an email explaining your reasoning to make the conversation easier at work. Personally, you just have to have an understanding conversation with the individual that you have a lot on your plate currently and you either can’t at all or may be able to at a future date.
With these takeaways, I find life to be more balanced and there is no way I see that your day won’t be productive if you take a go at it.
